I said to myself, "Did he just say that?"

I found the transcript, and yes he did!

QUOTE
February 18, 2008

According to Bush, the war is actually helping the economy:

CURRY: You don’t agree with that? It has nothing do with the economy, the war — spending on the war?

BUSH: I don’t think so. I think actually the spending in the war might help with jobs…because we’re buying equipment, and people are working. I think this economy is down because we built too many houses and the economy’s adjusting.

I keep reminding myself that we have less than a year left...then he says stuff like THIS and I have to wonder...can we survive that long?! smile.gif

Good god... yes, too many houses. Nothing at all to do with the fact America doesn't MAKE anything anymore. Let's see, China is booming--oh, and where do we borrow money from? China--and where have tons of manufacturing contracts/jobs gone to? Oh, right...CHINA! smile.gif

But it's the houses people...it's just too many houses. Good grief rolleyes.gif

War always creates jobs, but are they the kinds of jobs we want? Remember the defense industry flourished during Vietnam too.

He would do well to remember the words of the only good Republican President we ever had.

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron."

Dwight D. Eisenhower, From a speech before the American Society of Newspaper Editors, April 16, 1953

ironic that this was the man who guided us through WWII.

It would be "educational" to spend a few minutes reading and or listen to Dwight D. Eisenhower's full speech. I highly recommend it. (Hint-Hint, Prince Georgie boy)

It's no wonder Ike isn't brought up much in Republican circles. He was a better Democrat. People don't realize he was responsible for our interstate highway system.

Eisenhower isn't talked about much, his wisdom came from WWII. He's a totally amazing man, a man who knew war and came to hate it. A man who fought for peace and left office disappointed with the way things were.
He did have faith in the people of the future...I know we have let him down. It would serve any leader of this country to follow his lead.

QUOTE
We will bankrupt ourselves in the vain search for absolute security.

Bush never made it to the war of his generation, thats why he has such a cavalier attitude about waging war now...

Part of his problem, but Bill Clinton wasn't in war...he listened to his advisors. Bush is about oil and money. Collateral damage means nothing to him. There are a few quotes from Eisenhower regarding things this administration has done.

QUOTE
I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity.

~Dwight D. Eisenhower

When people speak to you about a preventive war, you tell them to go and fight it. After my experience, I have come to hate war.

~Dwight D. Eisenhower

War settles nothing.

~Dwight D. Eisenhower

Preventive war was an invention of Hitler. Frankly, I would not even listen to anyone seriously that came and talked about such a thing.

~Dwight D. Eisenhower

And one of my favorite quotes:

QUOTE
I think that people want peace so much that one of these days government had better get out of their way and let them have it.

~Dwight D. Eisenhower

Only those who've gone to war know the real horrors of it.
