Common Dreams: Read Whole Story

For all Americans who care, how do you really feel about this?
I would recommend to copy or print these pages and then staple them together and put them into a folder for future reference (ie. the next election these democrats are running in). As citizens and democrats we must watch the voting records of every democratic elected official within our party and must not ever allow them to vote against the interest of the people of america. And if they do vote against the people's interest, we must , as voters, make sure that we do not vote for that democratic representative ever again.

To vote for these democrats would be like giving a crack addict more crack to get better.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., said Congress sent "a firm and resounding message" that the federal bankruptcy system "will no longer be a shelter for abuse." And Rep. Phil Gingrey, R-Ga., said the new law will change America's "when-in-doubt-bail-out" system of dealing with debts.

Opponents of the bill said it passed only after lobbyists for the financial services industry spent $40 million. "Let's not kid ourselves: This bill was written for and by the credit-card industry," said Rep. William Delahunt, D-Mass. "It's got nothing to do with the consumer."

Rep. David Obey, D-Wis., said the means test will take power away from judges, who already have the discretion to deny bankruptcy protection if they believe the law is being abused. He said too many families are "just one medical bill or pink slip away" from financial disaster.

"If Congress is going to strip away protections for families who have lost their health insurance, then Congress has the responsibility to get off its duff and make sure every American has access to health care," he said.

Wonder when they will stop bailing out corporations? They don't believe in welfare except when it's 'corporate welfare.' No need for them to worry about healthcare either. Somehow this seems to make a difference!

ncMindy, I agree with your centiment 100%.

Do you realize how hard it is to research the statistics on the multi-international corporations who file bankruptcy, companies like Enron and Worldcom and at the rate that these companies file.

I have lots of friends in business and they will tell you that these big companies really love the bankruptcy laws for their own selfish protection. But when it comes to the citizens being protected from corporate fraud of greedy, fraudulent multi-international corporations like the credit card industries, what they do is contribute millions of dollars to their political constituents to represent them in the white house and to undeniably remove any data or disclosers that will reveal the truth about how often these corporations use the bankruptcy laws against the citizens and other corporations.

Thank you for your response ncMindy.

Sincerely,
CP
