Kerry, Reid face off behind closed doors over direction of party in the Senate
A quiet turf war is going on behind the scenes, the Washington Post will assert Sunday. According to the Post, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (`D-NV`) and Sen. John Kerry (`D-MA`), the party’s 2004 presidential nominee, faced off at a labor meeting. Sen. Kerry is said to believe Democrats aren’t doing enough to fight the president’s agenda.
The Post’s article echoes comments made to RAW STORY Friday from a senior Democratic strategist, who said Democrats needed to find the “courage” to press issues, such as the access given to discredited conservative correspondent “Jeff Gannon.”
“We’re living in the `post-Jeff` Gannon era where the left can finally show we know how to fight back and hold the media accountable,” the strategist told RAW STORY. “The right wing spent 30 years telling America about the liberal media, it’s time Democrats found the courage to set the record straight.”

You know why the Repugs call the media Liberal??? Cause they give us liberal, truthful information. But now the media is a bunch of communists. Just like Russia they now report what the Government wants them to tell the people.

If there was such a thing as the "liberal media", why aren't there more liberals in power? The "liberal media" is just a myth created by the `right-wing` spin machine, just another way to villianize the left. You needn't look any further than the media coverage of the last presidential campaign to see which way the media really leans.

Personally, I think Reid is doing a fine job. I agree that we need to show what the media really is, though. It ain't liberal and also, I have to disagree with beinlicht here, it ain't communist. It's very definitely capitalist, but it is also a propaganda machine for the government.
I think it's rather odd that Kerry would say they aren't standing up to Bush enough, because quite frankly, it's my impression that Reid is doing a much more effective job of that than Kerry is.

I think Reid is doing what has needed to be done...he's bringing some organization to the Senate democrats so they can possibly be effective in their efforts to fight back. Without this, you just have different members going in their own direction and a total lack of cohesion. Its much harder to keep democrats in line than it is for the republicans...by nature, we are more accomodating to nuanced views of issues and we are more tolerant of differences in opinion....these are good traits, but we can't let them defeat us.
So far, Reid has done well with Social Security....true, there are other issues, very important issues, out there to be dealt with, but what democrats need now is some kind of victory, and the defeat of the privatization of Social Security provides us with that. They've also done a good job in proposing amendment after amendment to the bankruptcy bill....I think this will work for us for quite awhile. Reid seems to understand that you have to pick a couple of areas to target at a time....unfortunately, Kerry's problem in his campaign was that he did not seem to be able to settle on a couple of points this way, rather the campaign tended to just `re-act` to whatever the republicans threw out on any given day. For that reason, there didn't seem to be an identification of exactly what he stood for.....hopefully, democrats now can take these couple of issues and define themselves in people's minds as the party that stood up for Social Security and sought to protect people from "big business" credit companies.

What I meant by the communist remark simply is like Russia, Ukraine etc. We are lied to by Bushco and the media reports on these lies like they are the truth. Even when we find out the truth they don't retract their previous reports they ignore it and move on. In point, Gannon gate, WMD's, Florida 2000 (did they say Gore actually won?)Ohio 2004 and on and on. The truth is swept under the carpet. Without Keith Olberman and `C-Span` we would never hear anything thuthful. The media is afraid of Bushco, FEC and Rover boy. I'm just sick of the media and being lied to day after day.
