Full Version: Scam Artists Preying on `Right-Wing` Americans

I am a liberal Democrat but I can not sit by and watch unethical `Right-Wingers` fleece their `right-wing` supporters. Check out this website. These people are actually asking their supporters to turn over the deed of their house to them! This is not right. I'm going to send this link to the various news organizations. I am also going to see if there is a consumer protection agency that can look into this. Any other suggestions?

Here is a sample of their fundraising letter that appears on their website.

Discover the Benefits of
Giving Wisely to MRC

You believe in the work of the Media Research Center, and you want to make sure that we will continue to restore political balance and responsbility to the news media well into the future. You want your gift to make a difference for us, but are concerned about your own future financial needs and those of your family.

We deeply appreciate your assistance, and will try to make it as rewarding for you as it is for us. That's why we want you to know about the financial tools you can use to plan your gift to us in a way that returns tax and/or income benefits to you or your family:

You don't have to use cash to make your gift -- you can give us appreciated securities instead, and receive important income and capital gains tax savings in return.
You may be holding assets that would benefit MRC more than they do you -- such as a life insurance policy that you no longer need, a parcel of real estate like a second home or undeveloped land, or a collection of books or artwork that you no longer have room to display.
You can make a gift that costs you nothing during your lifetime - make us a beneficiary of your will or revocable trust, or a beneficiary of your retirement plan, and leave your cash flow and current financial plans undistrubed.
You can make MRC a partner in your giving -- you can deed us your home but continue to live there, and you can make a gift that pays you lifetime income.
These tools are called planned gifts, and this website is the place to learn more about them. Where to start? If you already know something about your giving options, click on Ways to Give Wisely and go right to the planned gifts that you want to read more about. If you're not sure how a gift can meet both your charitable and personal goals, go to Discover the Benefits of Giving Wisely to learn how planned gifts work and how they can stretch your giving ability.

When you're ready to hear more, complete the Information Request Form for `follow-up` information from us.

I'm not sure the press will pick up on this - the Media Research Center is run by Brent Bozell, who also heads the Parents Television Council - you know that charming group that filed 99.8% of all the indecency charges with the FCC last year. Bozell is a large part of the noise machine that brought down CBS over the TANG documents. The mainstream press is so cowed by the right wing , I doubt that they would dare touch it . If having a gay prostitute in the White House is a story that can't see the light of day, I doubt that fleecing your followers will get any attention. After all, isn't that what is happening every day with this administration?

As far as other options, it might be worth it to contact the Virginia state Attorney General. That's where the consumer protection office would be. I think there's a better chance of shutting him down that way, than through the press.

And this from the MORAL PARTY. How in the heck did they convince 1/2 of America to vote for them and their agenda.
My Mom who's 73 says when the Republicans are in power the scum crawl out of the woodwork. laugh.gif
I just can't feel sorry for the people that follow these guys. What he's doing is wrong but it is not illegal. Those TV evangelists do this type of fund raising too.

One idea might be to send this site to "Raw Story"....they are kind of a liberal Drudge Report organization. They have picked up on alot of "scandals"....

The Media Research Center has been hard at work for some time. They launched a billboard campaign all across the country - I wrote about it here in the forums around the first of this year. If you didn't see one of their billboards you really missed something.

The billboards stated, "Tell the Truth, Don't Believe the Liberal Media." The one I saw was HUGE and located at the entrance to the Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport. It was shocking, really, and was gone by the end of December. Neither the local or national media reported on this - to my knowledge.

The billboards look cartoonish - but they are NOT funny.

Here they are in all their glory:

The MYTH of the Liberal Media has died with the intentional failure of the Corporate Media to cover the Gannon scandal.

So yeah, screw the "Mainstream Media." They are worthless anyway.

Not to mention the election theft.

We won't mention the lack of their investigative integrity that allowed us to get into this boondoggle of a war in Iraq......

...or their lack of investigation into the troubling holes in their "accepted" theory about 9/11.
