From Public's Perspective, Past Week Not Good One for Bush
Approval ratings drop

by Frank Newport and Jeff Jones

GALLUP NEWS SERVICE

PRINCETON, NJ -- <snip>A new Gallup Poll, conducted Feb. `7-10`, finds President George W. Bush's job approval rating has dropped to slightly below the levels measured in three January polls, and well below the 57% measured in Gallup's Feb. `4-6` poll that followed the State of the Union address. Furthermore, the president's approval rating on handling the economy has dropped below where it was in January, suggesting that the focus on the new budget and his Social Security plan may have negatively affected the president's public support. <snip>

If Gallup is reporting this 8 point drop, then you know it's worse than this. ohmy.gif

I was so ticked off today when Judy Woodruff described this as "holding steady"....this after gushing over his 57 percent last week! Ugh.

Holding steady? Wow! She must need new glasses. laugh.gif So, when he drops 16 points will she call it a slight drop?

Old Judy Woodenlips is about as credible as Jeff/Jim...I don't even watch CNN anymore except for Lou Dobbs.

I am sorry to say that I no longer watch ANY broadcast news and I used to be a news junkie.

I have subscribed to several overseas papers on line and watch CBC news out of Canada.

Judy Woodenlips lost me last year during the primaries. Her and her supposed journalist compadres were about as credible as my dogs howling at the moon and calling it an aria from Pavrotti.

She's just a liar like her hero.

Man, its been painful watching the demise of the media. How soon before Lou Dobbs and Aaron Brown get whacked? Soon, I think, unless they start to tow the corporate line and play kissee with the GOP and their corporate masters.

Its all disgusting.

I don't know about Lou and Aaron getting 'whacked.' They seem stronger than that to me. Even Chris Mathews took on a Bush guy about personal accounts and Social Security (tonight on MSNBC).

Republicans are going to implode. They ask us to believe that Social Security will be "strengthened" by removing money from the fund.

They ask us to believe that 2- 1 = 2. They are insulting every American's `God-given` intelligence. :x

I still can't believe that such an unpopular president was supposedly reelected by a majority of those who turned out to vote! :x
It is my feeling that Bush's presidency will crash under the weight of scandal and maladministration during his supposed 2nd term. The way things are going, Bush's approval rating will get lower than his IQ( and we know that's not very high to begin with). laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Remember this is Gallup which rigs its polls to favor Repugs as much as possible. Bush hasn't been over 50% in popularity with the exception of that brief period in the wake of 9/11. I truly hate all the `push-polling` and question rigging to generate a desired response.

Exactly right, Cat! Wouldn't it be wonderful if all the polls were more transparent. smile.gif

Well, apparently the exit polls were....and thus had to be `re-figured`....it still doesn't make sense, does it?

And sadly, even though I usually like Aaron Brown, I was appalled the other night when he had on a guest discussing the whole Ward Churchill thing and said, yeah, you know, I understand about free speech....but what about when it is so offensive???? If you can ask that, then you don't understand "free speech", as far as I'm concerned.
