[quote]WASHINGTON — Dick Harpootlian has never been one to stifle his opinions.

So when the former chairman of the S.C. Democratic Party decided that U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham has been doing a pretty good job — despite the fact that he’s a Republican — he showed his appreciation the best way one can in politics.

“No one worked harder to elect Alex Sanders than I did,” Harpootlian said of the former chief judge of the S.C. Court of Appeals, who lost to Graham in 2002. “But if Alex had to lose to somebody, let it be Lindsey Graham. I even cut him a check.”

This story really shocked me because the 2002 campaign was so nasty. Harpootlian even said that Graham was a "little light in the loafers,' which is an anti gay slur. However, now he says of Graham, "But if Alex had to lose to somebody, let it be Lindsey Graham.".

I just thought this was very interesting and I had never heard of it happening before. I would be just as shcking going the other way.

It comes easier from our side, we are willing to reach out. Lindsey Graham earned this man's respect and it's well deserved. You should be proud and I wish this could happen more often, we could get things done.

I am very proud. Can one not be shocked and proud? Graham tries, but he can't do it alone. He believes he was elected to get hings done for the people. He goes back often and meets with consituents. Form most of the articles I read he seems like a `constituent-friendly` Senator. I wish more were like this.

I agree that if this happened more often we would get more done. One can only hope that other Congressman and Senators will learn a lesson from this: Biprtisanship is good.
